Christopher Thomas Allen
(The Light Surgeons)
Christopher Thomas Allen is a media artist from London and the founder and director of creative studio The Light Surgeons. His work crosses a diverse range of media and formats, from award winning experimental films and animation to creating interactive installation projects and touring ground breaking live cinema performances internationally. He has collaborated with countless leading musical talents, architects, fashion and furniture designers as well as several pioneering creative technologists to realise a diverse range of projects.
In 2013 he helped to establish Live Cinema Foundation with the aim of building a community around more narrative driven audio visual performance art which he has helped to pioneer. In 2016 he joined forces with a group of audio visual artists and creatives to help found Splice Festival, London’s first dedicated audiovisual performing arts festival and remains part of the festivals core team.
In 2018 he started a new live cinema project exploring animation and visual music called “Sound In Pictures” which was commissioned by Anim18, a year long celebration of British animation, which culminated in an event at Rich Mix.
Through this project he aims to bring together a group of audio and visual artists to create a new live performance and lecture about the history of visual music that is also informed by a series of workshops that involve create participants from the deaf community.
He continues to forge new creative collaborations and make work that fuses art, technology and research to explore new approaches to experiences and storytelling in multiple contexts and across the creative disciplines.
